We spent two full days at the Lost Trades Fair building a dry stone wall from the ground up — not a demonstration wall to be removed, but a wall which has been donated to the Hanging Rock Reserve. People gathered throughout the weekend to watch the wall take shape, course by course.​

What drew most visitors in wasn’t the finished product, but the process itself. People wanted to know what stone we were using, how we chose each piece, what the tools were for, and how a dry stone wall holds together. Our wallers spent the weekend shaping, lifting, explaining, and answering questions while the crowd stood in the sun — and in Saturday’s rain — watching the work unfold.

The interest in traditional walling was constant from morning to late afternoon. Many people stayed for long stretches, following the progress and coming back later to see how far the wall had grown.​
