Heritage Wall Relocation
Whittlesea, Victoria

In September 2020 development of the Findon Road extension commenced. Three remnant Dry Stone walls with existing Heritage overlays were on the site.  We were required to remove and consolidate the existing stone and build a new wall. Due to the historic value of the stone, removal was done carefully by hand. Approximately 200 tonnes were removed and rebuilt into a 145m long, (1.3 m tall) freestanding wall, parallel with the planned road extension and consistent with the style of the original wall. Coordinating with Council, Heritage and Civil contractors, KDSWC strategically built sections to accommodate the challenging time schedule and achieved Heritage sign-off on the completed wall.

Kyneton Ridge Estate Winery
Kyneton, Victoria

Surrounded by nature reserves and granite outcrops, Kyneton Ridge is a well recognised winery in the Macedon Ranges. As part of their renovations and landscaping a 25-metre retaining wall provided a beautiful welcoming entrance to the restaurant, gallery and cellar door. This retaining wall was built using local sandstone with large 100mm flagstones that integrate into the sloping garden bed.

Heritage Wall Relocation on major industrial site. Preserving History Amid Modern Development.
Melbourne, Victoria

This project involved relocating a heritage-listed dry stone wall to accommodate the construction of a new industrial estate. The rebuild covered a span of 100 meters, requiring meticulous attention to detail to ensure the new structure mimicked the style and techniques of the original builders. The challenges were significant, beginning with the careful removal and secure storage of the original stones to ensure their preservation. For the rebuild, additional hurdles included preparing stable footings, selecting stones to maintain historical integrity, and meticulously planning the layout to replicate the original structure. Adverse weather conditions further added complexity to the process. Despite these challenges, our team successfully recreated the wall, preserving its cultural significance while meeting modern development requirements.

Feature Wall for National Supermarket Chain. Modern Design with Local Materials
Romsey, Victoria

For this project, we collaborated with a prominent supermarket to create a striking feature wall using locally sourced Taradale stone. The design aimed to merge functionality with an aesthetically appealing focal point that enhances the customer experience. Challenges included selecting and shaping the Taradale stone to achieve a consistent texture and colour while maintaining its natural character. The layout required precision to highlight the stone’s unique qualities, and careful planning ensured seamless integration into the supermarket's modern architectural style. The result is a feature wall that not only showcases the timeless beauty of Taradale stone but also reflects the store’s commitment to supporting local resources and craftsmanship.

Heritage Wall Repair. Restoring Craftsmanship in a Historical Setting.
Aintree, Victoria

This project centred on the repair and restoration of a heritage dry stone wall located in an historical setting. Precision and respect for traditional methods were critical, as the work required exact adherence to the original techniques used by the wall’s builders. We also utilised the original stones to ensure the wall retained its authentic character. The project came with unique challenges, including safely dealing with the presence of snakes and overcoming deep, intrusive tree roots that had disturbed the wall's foundation. Additionally, meticulous stone selection was essential to match the existing structure and maintain its visual and historical integrity. Despite these obstacles, our team successfully restored the wall, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern expertise to preserve its timeless appeal within the heritage landscape.
